CBS toont ontwikkeling veiligheid in coronatijd
De coronacrisis heeft tot een flinke daling van de criminaliteit geleid. Dat blijkt uit het zogenoemde Dashboard Welvaart in coronatijd van het Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek. Wel steeg de overlast aanzienlijk ten opzichte van eerdere jaren. Inmiddels kruipt ook de reguliere misdaad terug naar het oude niveau.
De door de politie geregistreerde misdrijven kennen een lange, dalende trend, al was er in 2018 en 2019 sprake van een lichte stijging. Toen half maart van dit jaar de lockdown werd afgeroepen, daalde de geregistreerde misdaad sterk. In de maanden februari–april daalde het aantal geregistreerde misdrijven tot een niveau dat in de voorgaande vijf jaar niet is voorgekomen. In mei en juni steeg het aantal geregistreerde misdrijven weer, om uit te komen op een niveau dat in de voorbije twee jaar gebruikelijk was.
Minder woninginbraken
De daling van de geregistreerde misdaad vond plaats voor alle typen misdrijven, behalve de zogeheten horizontale fraude. Het meest daalden de woninginbraken. Deze inbraakcijfers dalen al jaren trendmatig, maar bij het uitbreken van de coronacrisis kelderden ze echt diep. In april en mei van dit jaar waren er ongeveer de helft minder woninginbraken dan in dezelfde maanden van 2019. In juni was er een lichte stijging, maar was het aantal inbraken nog altijd een kwart lager dan een jaar eerder. De daling van het aantal woninginbraken houdt ongetwijfeld verband met het feit dat Nederlanders minder vaak van huis waren voor werk of voor plezier
Meer overlast
De bij de politie gemelde overlast kent een sterke seizoenfluctuatie en een heel licht stijgende trend. Tijdens het uitbreken van de coronacrisis ging de overlast echter snel omhoog. In april en mei waren er 60 procent meer meldingen van overlast dan een jaar eerder. In juni nam de overlast verder toe, maar dat hoort bij het normale seizoenpatroon. In vergelijking met een jaar eerder waren er in juni ruim 40 procent meer overlastmeldingen. Dit kan erop wijzen dat de extra overlast ten gevolge van de coronacrisis aan het dalen is.
