Twintig bodycam’s voor handhavers ‘s-Hertogenbosch

De gemeente ’s-Hertogenbosch heeft voor 21.000 euro twintig bodycam’s aangeschaft. Vanaf 1 oktober kunnen alle handhavers van de gemeente hiervan gebruik maken. De Brabantse hoofdstad deed al eerder ervaring op met bodycam’s tijdens Carnaval, maar wil dat de apparaatjes nu ook structureel worden gebruikt.

Burgemeester Jack Mikkers: “Het gebruik van de bodycam past in de stijl van handhaven binnen ons gastvrij ’s-Hertogenbosch. Handhavers zijn namelijk als eerste gastheer of gastvrouw. Maar, als het nodig is treden ze handhavend op. Met een bodycam als extra hulpmiddel kunnen zij hun werk veiliger doen. Want in de praktijk krijgen zij helaas ook te maken met mondelinge of fysieke agressie en soms geweld. Dat is natuurlijk iets dat we niet accepteren.”

De-escalerend
Het gebruik van bodycams werkt de-escalerend, zo blijkt uit onderzoek door andere gemeenten en de politie. Wel is het gebruik van de bodycams gehouden aan de richtlijnen van de AVG. Handhavers krijgen uitleg over het gebruik van de camera’s. Als de situatie het toelaat, worden mensen die gefilmd worden, voor het gebruik van de camera geïnformeerd. Achteraf krijgen zij informatie mee over wat er met de beelden gebeurt.
De gemeente verwacht dat de camera’s na drie jaar moeten worden vervangen. De vervangingskosten bedragen dan bijna 11.000 euro. Er wordt overigens rekening mee gehouden dat niet elk apparaat drie jaar zal meegaan. Boven de kosten voor apparatuur komt nog ruim 5.000 euro aan jaarlijkse licentiekosten.
